Other Information:
Singelée was a Belgian composer, conductor, and violinist. He played in several orchestras including the orchestra of the comic opera in Paris. He was violin soloist at the Royal Theater of Brussels. He conducted the orchestras of the Royal Theaters of Ghent and of Brussels. He was a proflic composer of two concerti and many Fantasies for violin, various instrumental pieces, and music for ballet. Singelée became a close friend of Sax during studies at the Royal school of Music in 1828. As a result, he wrote many pieces for the various members of the saxophone family and helped popularize the instrument.
