Daniel Gottlob Türk was a German theorist and composer. His father was a professional musician and was his first teacher. He was later a student of J. A. Hiller. He was active in Dresden, Leipzig, and Halle. In 1806 Halle University granted him a doctorate in theory and made him a professor. He was known in his time for theoretical treatises, works for pianoforte, and a cantata "The Shepherds of Bethlehem" (1782).
