Other Information:

Hartmann studied at the Munich Academy of Music with Joseph Haas from 1923 to 1927. He also studied later with Webern from 1941 to 1942. His works were performed during the 1930s. Because he opposed the Nazi regime, however, he stopped performing publicly until after WW II. He organized the Musica Viva concerts in Munich to promote new music after the war. His music was most heavily influenced by that of Bruckner, Berg, and Stravinsky.
